THE first China Tourism Day brought an overwhelming number of visitors to the city's 35 sightseeing spots because they offer half-price tickets today.

In the morning, long queues formed at the gate of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Pudong and its nearby Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. Most of the visitors were seniors and children.

Sightseeing cruises on the Huangpu River also offered half-price fares today.
