City airports rank as best in China

SHANGHAI'S two airports ranked as the top two on the Chinese mainland based on customer satisfaction, an airport survey organized by a civil aviation website found.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport received high marks from travelers in the survey, which was based on the responses of 9,000 people.

Xiamen's Gaoqi airport in Fujian Province ranked third.

Nanning's Wuxu airport in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Changchun Longjia airport in northern China finished at the bottom of the survey of 28 airports.

Despite the overall praise of Shanghai's airports, passengers said improvements need to be made in terms of security checks and the arrangement of shops and restaurants.

"Improved business places, lower food prices, upgraded toilets and the availability of Wi-Fi pushed up the ranking of the airports," the Shanghai Airport Authority said.

Passengers said Shanghai's airports had sufficient parking spaces, good signage, along with clean toilets.

Xiamen's Gaoqi airport scored higher marks for its restaurants and shops compared to the Shanghai airports.

Some passengers said the Pudong and Hongqiao airports need a bigger variety of restaurants while adding that "some food is more expensive than downtown eateries."

Pudong and Hongqiao airports also lagged behind Gaoqi in the transport category. Frequent travelers said transport services at night are insufficient at Shanghai's airports.

Pudong airport is rated among the world's top 10 airports based on customer satisfaction, according to the Airport Council International (ACI) while Hongqiao is in the top 30. The two airports handled more than 70 million passengers last year.
