City begins own Battle of Little Big Horn

THE first salvo has been fired in the battle to stop bus drivers from sounding their horns – more than 100 Shanghai buses have been fitted with horn timers limiting beeps to one every 15 seconds.

And if it works well, more buses will have the device installed, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

Bus drivers on four city routes are testing the timers, and any driver who deliberately honks the horn in a non-emergency faces a fine of 200 yuan (US$29.30), said the report.
