City car plate prices drop along with participation

THE success rate of Shanghai’s monthly car plate bidding rose for a fourth consecutive month to 7.74 percent as the number of auction participants continued to drop today to 95,595 by 9,737 from last month amid a wait-and-see market sentiment towards a new policy enforcement.
It is the first month for Shanghai to prohibit second-hand car plate trading in private, and the expectations for its market effect are quite divided. While preventing scalpers from cashing in on the secondary market to cool down speculation, it may also push up demand for car plates at the auction.
With the car plate quota for individual buyers set at 7,400 this month, the same as last month, The lowest winning bid went down by 500 yuan to 73,500 yuan while the average price dropped 442 yuan to 73,633 yuan.
