City fog delays flights, ships
DENSE fog engulfed Shanghai this morning, delaying a number of flights and blocking about 100 ships in port, authorities said today.
Shanghai's weather authority issued a yellow fog alert this morning warning of visibility less than 500 meters. The fog lifted after the sun rose.
About 100 ships were affected, either canceling or postponing their trips, local port immigration authorities said today.
Wusong Port said nearly 30 ships suspended or delayed departures or docking today.
The immigration police also said that 40 foreign ships delayed yesterday had docked and finished formalities by last night.
Average delays to flights from Hongqiao and Pudong Airports were about 90 minutes, a local newspaper reported today. By afternoon, flights were returning to normal.
Drizzle is forecast for today and tomorrow as a weak cold front approaches, with temperatures today up to 25 degrees Celsius.
