City highways closed by fog

CITY highways were closed last night after dense fog descended, officials said. The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow fog alert at 8:30pm, upgrading that to orange two hours later, as visibility was reduced to 200 meters. Highways, including G1501, G50, G60, G15, S4, S36, S32, S26 and S2, were closed due to the serious conditions, authorities said.
The alert was upgraded to red - the highest level - in Chongming, Qingpu and Fengxian Districts, where visibility was down to as little as 50 meters.
