City in rush hour thunderstorm warning

THUNDERSTORMS bringing torrential downpours are expected to affect rush hour traffic this morning, forecasters said yesterday.
Heavy rain that started yesterday should continue this morning under the influence of the plum rain belt, and people are advised to leave home earlier and take special care driving to work, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
North and central areas in the city are likely to be hit by torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, the bureau said.
The rain will weaken in the afternoon, it predicted.
Temperatures will rise today, with a high of 27 degrees Celsius, compared to 23.6 degrees yesterday. The low will be around 22 degrees.
Tomorrow is forecast to be overcast with drizzle, as the city is in the north of the rain belt, and the mercury will climb about 1 degree.
On Friday, drizzle is expected, with temperatures ranging between 23 and 27 degrees.
Another belt of rain is set to reach the city over the weekend, with temperatures rising again, the bureau said.
On Saturday, drizzle to light rain is predicted, with the high reaching 30 degrees.
Sunday will see showers, with temperatures of between 23 and 29 degrees, according to the bureau.
Last month Shanghai was slightly cooler than usual, nearly 1 degree Celsius lower than the average June temperature.
An earlier forecast by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau predicted 23 to 29 days with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees in the city this summer.
This compares to 28 days in 2013 and about the same as the average in the past 10 years.
The seasonal high will hit 40 degrees — slightly lower than last year’s record-breaking 42 degree days, forecasters said. However, there will be fewer of these high temperature days.
