City issues yellow fog alert; drivers are warned
DENSE fog began to shroud Shanghai this morning and slow down highway and port traffic. Visibility in downtown areas and in Baoshan, Pudong and Minhang districts is expected to drop below 500 meters, the weatherman said.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow fog alert at 7:45am, the lowest of a three-level alert system. The fog is expected to dissipate tonight, the bureau said.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully on elevated roads and highways.
The Yangshan Port said the fog has affected the schedules of some ships at the port. Ferries to the neighboring cities have also been cancelled because of the mist.
