City to create smartphone app to find parking spaces
SHANGHAI drivers may in future be able to consult a smartphone app to find available parking spaces.
The Shanghai Transport Commission plans to develop the app next year as part of a digital management strategy for the city transport system.
This should help reduce the number of motorists driving around in the hope of finding a place, and so ease traffic pressure, said a spokesman.
The spokesman did not provide a detailed schedule of the app’s development.
Meanwhile, drivers caught evading paying parking fees face having a record placed on their personal credit record, said the commission.
And technology will also be employed to crack down on those instances where drivers and staff reach a deal whereby the driver pays less, does not receive a receipt and the cash goes straight into the parking attendant’s pocket, according to the commission.
It said it is working on e-management solutions, such as installing digital detection and paying equipment.
