Cloudy start to week for city but sunny spells set to follow

UMBRELLAS won’t be needed much this week as high pressure is set to keep the city dry for much of the time, say forecasters.

Cloudy weather is forecast at the start of the week with some brief spells of drizzle on Wednesday.

Sunnier conditions are expected on Thursday and Friday with the cloud clearing.

Temperatures from today through to Friday will range between 20 and 29 degrees Celsius, said forecasters.

Meanwhile, the local weather authorities are stepping up protection measures in the event of severe weather conditions — such as typhoons and torrential rain — during the flood season.

“The flood season began on June 1 and lasts until September 30,” Zhang Ruiyi, a chief service officer at the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, explained to Shanghai Daily.

Zhang said the precipitation during the four-month flood season almost accounts for half of the city’s yearly precipitation.

This period is also the season for typhoons, severe convection and high temperatures, the forecaster added.
