Cold April Is First In 24 Years

FOR the first time in 24 years Shanghai experienced a cold spell in April. Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said Shanghai experienced a daochunhan - the late spring coldness or "spring turns back to winter."

In Chinese meteorology, a consecutive five days is regarded as a hou.

A daochunhan is declared when, after spring is pronounced, the average temperature of three hous is one degree lower than the same period's 30-year average.
