Cold front to end warm weather

CITY temperatures are expected to drop to below 20 degrees next week under the influence of a strong cold front coming in from the north, weather forecasters said.

The warm weather of recent days with highs of around 32 and 33 degrees Celsius is likely to end tomorrow with the cold front approaching and the mercury should drop four to eight degrees over the weekend, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Temperature readings could reach as low as 18 degrees next week.

Showers are forecast for tomorrow and Sunday with the expansion of the cold snap, the bureau said. Tomorrow is expected to be mostly cloudy with showers and the mercury should range from 24 to 30 degrees. Sunday is forecast to be overcast to cloudy and the temperature high could drop to 25 degrees.

"The city should be windy under the influence of both the cold front and the outer cyclones of tropical storm Roke," said Kong Chunyan, a chief service officer at the bureau.
