Cold front will see mercury plummet

TEMPERATURES are set to drop 6 degrees Celsius today with the arrival of a cold front, forecasters said yesterday.

A high of 25 degrees is forecast today, compared to 31 degrees recorded by the benchmark Xujiahui weather station yesterday, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

The low will be around 22 degrees and it will be overcast with stronger winds and showers, though these should let up by evening.

Good to slightly polluted air quality is expected this morning, with the city Air Quality Index between 90 and 110, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.

Tiny PM2.5 particles will be the top pollutant, added officials.

By afternoon, air quality will improve with the AQI between 60 and 80.

Temperatures will rise slightly tomorrow to 27 degrees, with sunny weather expected. However, the low will drop to 20 degrees.

Rain is forecast early next week, with a high of 28 degrees on Wednesday and lows of 22 degrees.
