Cold snap brings chilly start to 2015

A cold front from the north swept into the city today, bringing the temperature down sharply after an unseasonably mild couple of days.

The low dipped below zero degrees Celsius this morning with the high hitting 8 although it still felt rather nippy due a biting wind.

The first day of 2015 will also be cold with the temperature forecast to range between zero and 4 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The temperature is expected to drop further on Friday morning with a low of minus 1 downtown. The bureau warned of the possibility of icy roads and sidewalks on Friday morning. The high on Friday is set to be 8 degrees.

It’s expected to warm up on the weekend with the temperature ranging from 3 to 13 degrees.
