Cold to banish warm start to weekend

THERE will be a warm start to the weekend, but a cold front arriving on Sunday will send temperatures down to as low as 7 degrees Celsius early Monday morning, forecasters said yesterday.

Today should see an end to recent wet and overcast conditions, with sunny spells and some cloud instead, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Warmer and less humid weather is expected today, with the high increasing slightly to 18 degrees. Tomorrow’s high will reach 20 degrees.

Accompanied by gusty winds, the arrival of cold air from northern China on Sunday is expected to see temperatures drop below 10 degrees

The cold front will push the overnight lows down to 7 degrees early Monday morning.

Monday will be a sunny day with temperatures ranging from 7 to 15 degrees.

The mercury will then rise a little, to between 9 and 17 degrees, on Tuesday.

The density of PM2.5 particles soared to 181.8 micrograms per cubic meter by 7pm yesterday — nearly 2.5 times the nation’s limit of 75, and maintained above 150 since then.

PM2.5 particles are very small particles particularly damaging to health.

The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau forecast that air quality today will be lightly to moderately polluted, with the AQI ranging from 160 to 195.
