Commercial zone to get Metro boost

THE construction of an improved transport network is one of the priorities for the Hongqiao business district under the government’s latest development plan for the area, local authorities said yesterday.

By 2020, the commercial hub will be served by four new subway services, an electric bus line and an extended Yan’an Road, the district management committee said in a statement.

The area is currently served by Metro Lines 2 and 10, but under the development plan, stops along Lines 13, 17, 20 and 23 will be added, it said.

The statement did not give a specific time frame for the work, but it was reported earlier that the under-construction Line 17, which will link the Hongqiao area to Oriental Land in Qingpu District, will open in 2018.

The committee did not elaborate on the Yan’an Road project, but said that the new electric bus line will primarily serve the National Exhibition and Convention Center.
