Cool days ahead and typhoon is brewing

Scorchers are gone and Shanghai will enjoy coolness in the next few days as a cold front prevails over the area, said local forecasters.

Clouds gathered over the city under the influence of the cold front. Today's maximum temperature is about 27 degrees Celsius, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Scattered showers are expected in the city and will intensify tonight and tomorrow, the bureau said.

Today is Chushu (End of Heat), a Chinese lunar calendar term that indicates the weather starts to get cold. But Shanghai's autumn season usually starts around the turn of September and October.

The bureau said the weather should remain overcast with showers in the next five days.

Meanwhile, this year's 15th tropical storm, Bolaven, is strengthening in the western Pacific and is likely to impact China's east coast. It is currently traveling at about 15 kilometers per hour.

Bolaven may strengthen into a super typhoon in coming days and its influence will be felt early next week, the forecast said.
