Cooler weather will not continue for long

ENJOY the cooler weather for a couple of days, but be prepared for the mercury to rise again by the middle of the week, weathermen said yesterday.

But the respite from the heat will be accompanied by rain. Due to the influence of a tropical depression over the East China Sea, rain and overcast skies will persist through Wednesday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau forecast.

The high for the next three days is expected to be 31 degrees Celsius, while the temperature will dip as low as 26 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 32 degrees on Thursday and climb to 34 on Friday. Cloudy skies are expected for the end of the week.

The bureau added autumn is still weeks away. Fall comes when the daily average temperature is lower than 22 degrees for five consecutive days. The city usually enters fall in early to mid-October.
