Digital card records ayi’s work history

THE government is making it much easier to check a domestic helper’s background with the introduction of a digital card containing their employment history, identity card number, medical records and credit rating.
Employers can check an applicant’s background by calling 962512, going to www.962512.com, or by scanning the QR code on the card.
Currently, 19 domestic service companies, including Jinguoyuan, Shenghua and Aijun, have registered to use the digital card, and more are expected to join them, according to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce yesterday.
“The card contains reliable information on domestic helpers,” said Wu Xingbao, vice chairman of the commission. “It allows households to get to know the background of an ayi, who will become part of the family if hired.”
Dishonest ayi providing fake documents such as identity cards, health certificates or resumes in interviews is a growing problem in the city. In March, more than 30 domestic service companies created a blacklist of dishonest ayis, but the digital card will provide a more effective way to deal with the problem, Wu said.
