Downpour to bring cool relief tonight
A scorching sun brought the city's temperature up to nearly 35 degrees Celsius in early afternoon, marking it the hottest day this year.
But the heat will be short-lived as a cold snap is coming from the north and bringing showers to the city, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The maximum temperature will plunge more than 10 degrees to about 23 degrees Celsius tomorrow and the low will drop to around 19 degrees, the bureau said.
Showers are forecast tonight and tomorrow and the sky will turn cloudy on Thursday.
Shanghai residents felt like in summer these days with the mercury hovering over 30 degrees since Saturday. The weather bureau advised people to wear sunglasses when walking in the sun.
