Drainage hurt quality of tap water
A suburban water plant is adding activated carbon to purify the water in its network after a local creek was polluted by drainage from heavy showers.
The Shanghai Water Authority reopened the water gate connecting the Yexietang Creek in Songjiang District and the Huangpu River yesterday to let the clean water from the Huangpu flush the pollution.
The water quality for nearly 80,000 people in Yexie Town, Songjiang, should be improved starting this afternoon, said Zhu Hongmei, an official of the Songjiang District water authority.
"The water gates on the Yexietang were closed since last week to prevent the Yexietang Creek from being flooded," a director of the Yexie water plant surnamed Sheng said yesterday.
