Driver sought after fatal hit and run
A WOMAN was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the Pudong New Area yesterday morning, local police said.
A security guard at a residential complex nearby said the vehicle that fled the scene could have been a bus but he couldn't see clearly because it was dark and raining.
Pudong New Area police were still searching for the driver of the vehicle last night.
The accident happened at about 6am on Lingshan Road near Taolin Road.
The middle-aged victim, who has not been identified, was hit just after she left a nearby neighborhood, witnesses said.
The woman's head was badly injured and there were large bloodstains over the road, witnesses said.
She was pronounced dead when the ambulance came.
Lost control
Meanwhile, a bus crashed into a barrier and almost fell off the Nanpu Bridge after it lost control early yesterday morning.
No one was injured.
The accident happened about 12:30am on the ramp of the bridge near Longyang Road.
The bus, heading from Puxi to Pudong, broke through the barrier in the middle of the bridge, drove on the opposite lanes and finally hit the side barrier of the bridge.
There were no passengers on the bus and the driver, surnamed Li, escaped through one of the back windows.
A crane was used to remove the damaged vehicle.
About seven concrete barriers were knocked over in the middle of the bridge and the impact had twisted the steel side barrier.
Li said he stepped on the brake heavily when a big vehicle ahead suddenly slowed down. The road was wet and slippery and he lost control of the vehicle.
