Driver was twice legal limit
THE drunk driver held by police after allegedly crashing into eight vehicles in Jiading District late on Thursday was more than twice the legal limit for drinking and driving, police said.
Han's blood alcohol level was tested at 1.83mg/ml, - the legal limit is set at 0.8mg/ml for driving, police reported.
Police said Han's reckless driving "put public safety in great danger."
Han said he was still unclear about what happened on Thursday night. "He even claimed other drivers hit him first," police said.
Police received a call about 8:25pm and rushed to Cao'an Highway where the first accident happened.
In the incident lasting almost an hour, Han allegedly crashed into eight cars - including two police cars - robbed a driver of 1,000 yuan (US$152) in cash, then stole a van to make his escape. He was caught by officers near a bridge about 9:15pm.
