Driverless train
A DRIVERLESS train running on rubber tires and concrete roads arrived at Shanghai yesterday, which will run on the third phase of Metro Line 8.
The new section is expected to be opened by the end of this year. The four-carriage train without a driver will be more spacious and can carry at most 726 passengers.
The Metro operator says the rides will be quieter, maintenance costs lower and it will be more energy efficient.
The technology has been operating in several countries, including the United States, Japan and France.
The section will also be the first line applying the new technology in Shanghai.
