Drivers face congestion and detours

DRIVERS can expect congestion and detours as a year-long project gets under way, the city government said.

The construction of new ramps for the Beihong Road Overpass of Beiheng Passage to connect it with Middle Ring Road started over the weekend.

An existing ramp of the overpass, heading to Shangzhong Road Tunnel, will be demolished because it restricted the planned connection between the passage and Middle Ring Road.

Xianxia Road W. (between Qingxi Road and Weining Road) will be expanded from a two-way street with four lanes to six lanes.

Beiyu Road (between Beidi Road and Tianshan Road W.) will be expanded from a two-way road with two lanes to three lanes, the additional lane running from north to south.

Vehicle traffic will no longer run along Beidi Road (between Songhong Road and the Middle Ring Road) from west to east, while east to west traffic will be running along three lanes.

The city’s traffic police, which will monitor the affected areas and deploy officers to manage traffic jams, estimate that the closure of the ramp will worsen congestion in nearby areas, particularly around Xianxia Road W. during rush hours.
