Dry days ahead, but colder too
DRY weather is forecast for much of the week, but a cold front from the north will bring temperatures down, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
This means that the city is unlikely to see the official start of spring this week, added officials.
After the heavy rain of yesterday, it should be overcast but dry today and for the next couple of days. However, the rain may return near the end of the week.
Today, the high will reach 10 degrees Celsius, with the low 5 degrees.
The arrival of a moderately strong cold front will send temperatures down tomorrow and Wednesday.
Tomorrow, the high will barely reach 7 degrees, with a low of 3 degrees, while Wednesday will see temperatures in the city range from 3 to 9 degrees, said forecasters.
As the cold front weakens, the mercury will start to climb on Thursday to between 5 to 12 degrees.
Friday will be warmer still, ranging from 8 to 16 degrees.
Officially, the first day of spring is the first of five consecutive days when the average temperatures is above 10 degrees.
Usually this falls in the second half of March.
The good air quality over the weekend is forecast to continue today — though with slight smog this morning, according to Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
The Air Quality Index will range between 90 and 110 from 6am to noon, with PM2.5 the major pollutant, but will come down to between 55 and 75 in the afternoon as pollutants disperse.
