Electricity, gas and water - all in 1 bill
A MILLION households will from next month be able to pay for their water, gas and electricity with a single electronic bill, local government officials said yesterday.
The move aims to make bill-paying more convenient and cut back on paper use, officials with Shanghai Economy and Information Technology Commission said.
Officials confirmed the pioneering program will start with 1 million integrated e-bills covering downtown households.
Residents have long complained about the inconvenience of logging on several times to pay water, gas and electricity bills separately.
The program is among city initiatives to improve the convenience of urban life and create a "smart city" through Internet-based technologies.
Free access to public wireless services is also planned for more central business areas, officials said.
