Expo taxi hotline reaches end of road

THE hotline service for booking an especially spacious taxi, the World Expo cab, will terminate from next Tuesday, the city transport authorities said.

The 96822 taxi hotline, owned by the city's leading taxi company Dazhong, will no longer accept orders where customer ask specifically for Expo cabs.

During the six-month Expo duration, the Dazhong taxi hotline, aside from allowing customers to book its regular cabs, also offered the service of Expo taxis, a Volkswagen Touran, if they wanted.

"Passengers can no longer ring up the designated hotline to ask for an Expo taxi. Whether they are allocated with such a spacious cab will be a matter of chance," explained Ling Dongshu, an official with Dazhong.

The 3,650 Expo taxies, emblazoned with images of iconic Expo buildings, belong to different local taxi companies.
