Expo taxis will remain in service
THE fleet of World Expo taxis will continue to roam the city's streets once the fair ends on October 31 and fares will remain the same, the Shanghai Transport and Port Bureau said yesterday.
The 4,000 Expo taxis will be repainted and returned to the five cab companies that own the vehicles.
Initially, officials said the taxis would be retired after the Expo ends due to higher costs.
Officials are still discussing whether the Expo taxi hotline, 96288, will remain in service.
Since the hotline opened on May 1, more than 1 million people have called to reserve an Expo taxi.
He, a resident living on Hongmei Road, became the 1 millionth passenger on Thursday to call and reserve an Expo taxi. She received a gift package, including a free taxi ride to the Expo site, Expo tickets and a toy Haibao.
The gifts were presented by Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Company.
