FDA looks to improve its testing efficiency
THE Shanghai Food and Drug Administration is testing a new system that will help it to detect illegal substances in food products.
Peng Shaojie, who works for the watchdog, said yesterday that the system is designed to improve efficiency as it will be faster than previous testing methods.
Meanwhile, he said that the administration is also looking at ways to shorten the testing time for “fake meat.”
He didn’t define “fake meat” but in 2013, a restaurant in Putuo District was closed for offering “mutton” dishes that actually contained duck.
Other research will help to shorten the testing time for things like malachite green dye, Peng said.
