Factory to be relocated
A PILE-MAKING factory which caused an accident on Metro Line 9 in Songjiang District will be relocated to ensure the subway operates safely, the district government said in a statement yesterday.
The relocation of Shanghai Jianhua Concrete Pile Co is still being prepared following a November accident in which a piece of broken factory equipment smashed into a concrete support on an elevated section of the line, which is about 150 meters from the factory, the district government said.
Meanwhile, three people, including a manager and two technicians, would be held responsible for the accident.
Weng Zhonghua, the company's general manager, will receive administrative penalties and avoid jail time. However, technicians Gong Canfu, who was not licensed, and Yang Gaoxue are expected to be held criminally liable for improper use of an autoclave machine, the government said.
An autoclave machine at the factory exploded on November 7. A piece of the broken machine smashed into a concrete support on an elevated section of Line 9.
Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the subway operator, was forced to close six stations. Trains also had to reduce speed on the line for several days after the accident.
The operator yesterday said Metro Line 9 is now running smoothly.
