Faster 4G network tested on some Shanghai buses

PEOPLE will soon be able to access faster 4G network with mobile devices as they take buses on two routes through downtown People's Square and Huaihai Road, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.

The long-awaited 4G wireless service can offer Internet access 20 to 50 times faster than the 3G network. Passengers on Bus 49 and Bus 926 will be the first to benefit from the 4G service.

China Mobile, which is conducting large-scale 4G trials in Shanghai, has tested its 4G service on buses before it is officially launched later this year, according to its Shanghai office.

"It takes time for us to test for signal stability on a moving bus," said a Shanghai Mobile marketing official.

Currently, 3G services are available on some local buses, provided by Shanghai Mobile and Shanghai Telecom. With the forthcoming 4G network, passengers can enjoy better audio, video and game streams.

Since June 1, 5,000 Shanghai Mobile clients have been invited to test the latest 4G products, including mobile phones and data cards based on TD-LTE (time division-long term evolution) technology, a domestic 4G technology.
