Fewer government jobs

MORE than 59,000 people will sit an exam to compete for the 4,275 jobs at government institutions in Shanghai this year. The total is 9,000 fewer than last year, the Shanghai branch of Offcn Education said. The dip is due to the tougher recruitment requirements, it said, adding that for almost all jobs applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Also, fewer vacancies are on offer this year due to a nationwide campaign to downsize government bodies.
