Flights to England still hit by snow

FLIGHTS to European cities from Shanghai, delayed due to wintry weather there, were mostly able to resume yesterday - except for those to snowbound England.

Flights to countries such as France, Germany and Belgium are taking off again from Pudong International Airport, the city's major international terminal, local airport authorities said.

However, almost all flights to England over the past four days have been canceled, with only one able to leave the Pudong airport on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a Shanghai tour group stranded in London left for home last night.

On a trip organized by the Ctrip.com, China's major online travel service platform, the 21-member group had expected to fly home on Monday night, but their flight was canceled due to heavy snow in Britain.

The company said officials arranged for accommodation and food during their extended stay in London.

Travel agencies said groups going to Britain may still be affected. "If flights are suspended, we suggest tourists postpone trips," said He Jing, an official with Ctrip.com.

Weather conditions in Europe are not expected to improve until Friday.
