Flood lessons ‘must be learned’
THE city’s flood control and prevention authority said yesterday it will improve the way in which it deals with flooding in the future.
Following the huge downpours on Wednesday, which affected more than 1,000 households and left dozens of roads impassable, Liu Xiaotao, director of the flood control and prevention administration, said “facilities will be upgraded and more pumping trucks will be put on the roads.”
Officials “must learn from the experience,” he said.
In the future, the administration will share information with the city’s meteorological bureau, improve the flood warning system, and make better use of social media to keep the public up to date, he said.
Hongkou and Jiading districts were the worst affected by Wednesday’s flooding, though most of the excess water was drained away by early afternoon, the agency said.
