Flood risks are high in Shanghai this summer

THE Shanghai government has started flood prevention work as the raining season sets in next month and urged people to batten down the hatches for destructive typhoons and rainstorms in the coming three months.
The Shanghai Anti-Flood Headquarters said today that Shanghai may experience several typhoons, heavy precipitation and an early Plum Rain season this summer according to weather forecast.
It said there will be 28 astronomical high tides of four meters and even higher during the flood season which could cause floods in the city, in addition to rainstorms.
More information will be available after a government meeting later this afternoon.
