Fog alert lifted, flights back to normal

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau has removed an orange fog alert, the second highest of a three-color warning system and the first this winter, at 9:55am as visibility improved in most parts of the city.

Flights at the Pudong International Airport returned to normal and travelers are advised to pay attention to flight schedules in case of a change.

The Yangtze Tunnel Bridge also resumed normal operation, according to a Weibo microblog posted by the Chongming County government press office.

Shanghai was swallowed by dense fog last night and early this morning. Visibility in a large part of the city fell to less than 100 meters, disrupting air, road and water traffic. About 19 flights were cancelled.

Several highways were forced to close because of the fog. Downtown ferry services were also affected.

Although the fog is gradually drawing up, a light to moderate haze is forecast to hover over the city today.
