Fog shuts down exits
HEAVY fog caused some expressway exits in the city to close as well as causing traffic backups and briefly delaying flights early yesterday morning.
Three exits on three expressways linking the city to neighboring Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces were closed between 5am and about 7:40am. Fog alerts were posted for drivers on signboards.
Dense fog caused the Jinshan District observatory to issue a yellow fog alert, lowest on the three-tiered system. Visibility in the district was limited in 500 meters.
Traffic jams caused by the fog were cleared by the rush hour, the traffic authority said.
There were some short flight delays because of the fog at city airports, officials said.
