Forecasters' thunderstorm warning

THUNDERSTORMS and strong winds are expected to hit the city today and forecasters have warned people to be aware of the danger of lightning and objects falling from high buildings.

There could be up to 50 millimeters of rain today, they said.

Temperatures will reach 23 degrees Celsius after lows of 19 degrees. Tomorrow, temperatures will drop to between 17 and 20 degrees.

Winds, which will be strong today and tomorrow, could reach up to 61 kilometers per hour, and even more in coastal areas, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The World Expo site has been preparing for the bad weather and the flood prevention authorities have emergency teams on standby to ensure the elimination of any flood risk at the site.

Rain will weaken from tomorrow, and the rest of the week will see sunshine, with temperatures rising to 25 to 27 degrees.

But from Friday, another rainy spell is expected.
