Glitch paralyzes Metro Line 2

A SIGNAL malfunction delayed trains for about three hours this morning on the eastern extension of Metro Line 2, subway officials said today.

The accident happened between Lingkong Road Station and Pudong International Airport around 9am, with services restored about noon after emergency repairs.

Officials did not reveal how many passengers missed connecting flights.

A similar breakdown occurred in the sector near Pudong International Airport last Wednesday.

Though some Metro riders online said accidents and malfunctions were normal and understandable as the line extension was on a trial service, others complained about the frequent malfunctions.

"The delay might affect passengers rushing to Pudong Airport because they could fail to catch their flights," said a user on Metro Fans Club, a cyber community in Shanghai.

Metro Line 2 connects Shanghai's two airports, with a one-way trip taking about two hours.
