Good weather tomorrow to give way to sleet on Sunday, cold and rain next week

SLEET is expected to hit the city on Sunday as a cold front from the north brings rainy days to the city next week, local forecasters said.

But locals will at least enjoy a good day tomorrow before the continuous bad weather comes, giving the city a temporary break from rain and temperatures that will also rise slightly to a high of 8 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures will then drop to a low of about 3 degrees on Sunday as the cold front arrives with rain and also sleet in some areas of the city, said Wu Rui, chief forecaster with the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Rain and heavy clouds will linger over the city through next week with low temperatures between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius with highs of around 7 degrees, Wu said.

The city’s air quality was good and will remain satisfactory over the weekend as the rain cleared pollutants from the air.

The Air Quality Index stayed around 28 in the city today, putting it in the best level according to local standards, the city’s air quality watchdog said.

The index will rise slightly tomorrow to around 100 as the rain stops and temperatures climb, but it will still be within the level of “good.”

The rain and sleet on Sunday will keep the pollution index down to around 60, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
