Gucun Park to be Asia's largest city park by 2015
WORK started today to expand the Gucun Park in the city's suburban Baoshan District to make it the biggest park in Asia by 2015.
The park's second phase will cover 250 hectares of land. Its first phase of 180 hectares opened to the public in 2009.
The added area will feature a sightseeing boulevard, a 2,000-meter-long ecological corridor, and three zones for water scenery, farms and forests. It will also include sports and recreation facilities, Baoshan District officials said today.
Gucun Park is famous for its cherry blossoms, a sight that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors for its week-long Cherry Blossom Festival.
