Hangzhou improves tourist voucher program

THE tourism authority of Hangzhou City is improving its tourist discount vouchers and has involved more participant businesses to make the vouchers easier to use.

The city's tourism bureau announced the new measures at a press conference yesterday after complaints, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The Shanghai-based newspaper carried a story on March 9 describing how six tourists found it inconvenient to use the vouchers during a two-day trip in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province. They were asked to give out a lot of personal information when using the vouchers and could use the vouchers only at a few businesses.

Now the Hangzhou tourism authority said it has simplified the registration procedure for the vouchers.

And it has invited more businesses to join the program. By yesterday, 818 outlets from 507 businesses had joined the voucher program, tourism officials said. The list of the participant businesses will be published on the tourism authority's Website.

The authority plans to give participant businesses a logo to make them easily identifiable and will provide training for businesses to help tourists with vouchers.

As the spring comes, Hangzhou tourism officials expect a boom in the use of vouchers later this month.
