Heavy fog disrupts flights, water and road transport
SHANGHAI has been hit by heavy fog and smog since late last night and low visibility has disrupted air, water and road transportation this morning.
About 19 flights of city’s two airports have been cancelled by 8am due to poor visibility, and travelers are advised to pay close attention to flight schedule update and prepare for possible changes.
Several highways were forced to close because of the heavy fog. Downtown ferry services were also affected.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau remained its fog alert to orange around 7am today, the second highest of a three-stage system, when visibility over most areas of the city fell to 100 meters.
The visibility is expected to improve around noon.
