Heavy rain and hot weather this week
DON’T forget to keep an umbrella handy — thunderstorms and overcast skies are forecast this week.
There will be a break from the rain over the weekend as the subtropical high and the rain belt moves northward, forecasters said.
It has been a hot start to this week, however, with the year’s hottest day on Sunday, when the mercury soared to 34.1 degrees Celsius as recorded by the Xujiahui Meteorological Station. Yesterday, the station reported a high of 33.5 degrees.
Today, the temperature will hover around 34 degrees, but should fall slightly tomorrow and on Thursday. On Friday, the mercury is expected to rise to 34 degrees again.
A scorching and dry weekend is predicted, with the high touching 35 degrees. But the possibility of the city’s plum rain season ending this week is low, forecasters said.
This year’s plum rain season started on June 19. The average period for the season is 23 days.
From this month, residents can receive real-time weather forecasts from the radio.
Hourly weather forecasts, predicted by six experts from the city’s meteorological center, are broadcast on FM105.7, the traffic and emergency station. Previously, the radio station updated and reported the forecast every six hours.
So now you know when that umbrella will be needed.
