High-speed tunnel completed

CONSTRUCTION of the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway project passed a milestone at the weekend with the completion of the 14.7-kilometer Bibanpo Tunnel. The massive project was built on the Yungui Plateau on the borders of Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. The rail line is expected to go into service next year, and will shorten the journey time from Shanghai to Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, to about 10 hours from 40 hours at present.
