Historic bridge lifted back into place

SHANGHAI'S 102-year-old Waibaidu Bridge is being set back in its original location after a 10-month absence for repairs and restoration.
Cranes lifted the northern section of the bridge's main structure onto a barge at 7:20am today.
Two tugboats then pulled the barge with the steel structure to the mouth of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek at about 10:20am.
Aided by favorable tides, the barge reached the supports on Suzhou Creek at 11am.
The span was placed back on its original site at 12:45pm.
To the sound of the Kenny G's "Going Home", hundreds of local residents including many seniors, watched the historic moment.
The southern span will be moved tomorrow and the bridge is expected to be open to traffic in April.
Engineers will erect a wooden sidewalk for the bridge and install an LED lightning system.
