Hong Kong Travel Industry Council Targets Shifty Tours

HONG Kong tour companies must promise that tour guides will not force tourists to go shopping or hold tourists inside stores on the itinerary, the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong said yesterday.

Tour agencies and guides that break the promise may lose their business licences. The itinerary including all shopping stops should be given to every member of a tour group when they reach Hong Kong.

If tourists are not satisfied with the products they buy in Hong Kong, they can ask for refund within six days.

Tung Yao-chung, executive director of the council, said the council will decided today the punishment for Win's Travel Agency Ltd, the company responsible for the death of a tourist in Hong Kong last month.

Chen Youming, from Hunan Province, died suddenly after quarrelling with an uncertified tour guide who tried to force him to shop at a store.
