Hongqiao Airport opens new Terminal 2

SHANGHAI today opened a new terminal at Hongqiao International Airport today, connected to a transport hub and a planned commercial area in the city's west end.
The airport operator said the new terminal would help ease congestion, with up to 90 percent of airlines switching flights to Terminal 2 from today.
The airport, which mainly handles domestic flights, saw a smooth opening this morning as most passengers were able to get there by taxis, subway or buses.
However, airport officials said there were still hundreds of passengers who went to the wrong terminal, and shuttle buses were arranged to transport them between the two buildings.
An elevated road leading to Terminal 2 suffered traffic jams this morning as drivers were not quite familiar with several newly opened roads.
More than 450 flights are due to take off or land at the new terminal today.
