Hongqiao hub skywalk to be ready in June

THE last structure of a skywalk that will connect the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) with Hongqiao transport hub in Qingpu District has been laid.

The last section was assembled on the 343-meter-long skywalk yesterday. It will connect the world’s largest single-building exhibition complex and the Hongqiao Business Zone, spanning over a river, railway and the Jiamin Elevated Road, according to the Shanghai Mechanized Construction Group.

The skywalk will be ready in June, a press officer with the group, surnamed Li, told Shanghai Daily. Li said on completion, the skywalk will help crowds making to-and-fro trips to the exhibition center. Exhibitors and visitors can walk on the skywalk from the center directly to the nearby parking areas as well as bus and railway stations at the Hongqiao traffic hub.

The center, co-built by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai city government, was put into use at the end of 2014. It was designed to serve a total of 400,000 visitors with 500,000 square meters of exhibition space.
